Most buildings already have the equipment they need to run efficiently and the real gap is the expertise to use it well. My approach is pragmatic: optimise what you already have, avoid unnecessary hardware upgrades and build internal capability.
I help organisations get more from their existing building and energy management systems (BEMS), align onsite teams and embed the skills needed for ongoing optimisation. And critically, I prove savings with clear, transparent measurement and verification, helping you promote the good work you are doing to reduce energy and cut costs.
Charity Work
The charity and private sectors have both been through profound change over the last few years.
While the cost-of-living crisis has seen small and medium charities provide crucial support to the most vulnerable, rising costs means that they are often struggling to cover their own overheads. Without the access, resources or time to optimise their utility billing setup and manage their energy consumption effectively, these charities’ limited funds continue to shrink as their role becomes even more vital.
Meanwhile, the post-pandemic shifts in work patterns have seen more people putting their work skills to use on a voluntary basis. With benefits including increased wellbeing and staff retention, many large companies provide two days paid voluntary leave to their employees – including energy professionals – to support good causes.
Energy Volunteers brings charities and energy professionals together and offers advice based on years of doing the same thing professionally: reducing bottom line energy and utility costs for the companies. It helps charities by:
Providing educational webinars on various energy saving topics
Linking up charities with volunteer energy managers
Providing other bespoke services with the heavy lifting supported through Energy Approach Ltd.
I set up Energy Volunteers as a Community Interest Company (CIC) and social enterprise in 2023 where it's primary purpose is to benefit the charity sector, specifically small and medium sized charities. Surpluses are redirected towards advancing the mission.
